The ABCs of MCing
Learn the ABCs of MCing from Bastard Keith, the velvety fool who has worked stages from Vancouver to New York to Helsinki. In a friendly, constructive atmosphere, we'll discuss such basics as:
- WHY ON EARTH DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS?
- Finding your stage self (if you have a gimmick, bring it!)
- Confidence
- Kicking things off with a bang
- Keeping the energy high
- Keeping your show from flying off the rails
- When to talk and when to shut the hell up
- Backstage etiquette
And much more. This is a good workshop for anyone interested in the art of the MC, from beginners to people who want to see Keith trip over his own words for once
.
**students can bring any costumes or props they are interested in experimenting with as a host persona. We will also have some on hand to explore.
Who is Abraham Goldfarb?
Bastard Keith is a burlesque MC, singer, writer and gadabout. He is the inventor of “Burletiquette.” With his partner Madame Rosebud he founded The Sophisticates, the only burlesque show to be thrown out of the Plaza Hotel for indecency. He hosted Revealed Burlesque for its entire run, and MCs frequently for The Floating Kabarette at Galapagos Arts Space, The Rhinestone Follies, Pink Room Burlesque, D20 Burlesque, The Slipper Room, Wasabassco Burlesque, Burlesque Nouveau, Le Scandal Cabaret, and many others.
Outside of burlesque Abraham is a film, theater and voice actor. He was in Beetlejuice on Broadway - where he was the understudy for Beetlejuice himself and is known for voicing Professor Kukui in Pokémon Sun & Moon. His latest film, First Time Caller, has recieved great critical praise.
